Then my MediaBistro daily newsletter made sure that didn't happen by sharing a chart about social media personalities. The infographic was put together following the collection of data via survey by online bank First Direct. Based on the results, First Direct determined that there are 12 unique personality types across users of social media, some of which you can see in this teaser chart:
Naturally your first reaction upon seeing this may be, "But what if I fit into a couple different categories?" Don't worry, that's normal; the folks analyzing the survey data even admit as much. The categories just allow them to highlight common behavioral trends.
Your next question is probably, why does this matter? Well:
- On a personal level, this could help you analyze your online movements and behavior.
- From a business standpoint, this data highlights various trends in consumer's online vs. real life personalities - and with a little more work and analysis, that could lead to real world results if companies use that information to improve how they speak to their customers.
I personally will be very interested to see if more research is done on this matter - and am also curious to watch how these personalities potentially change by expanding or combining over time, which could very well happen as social media continues tog
But I'm sure people could also poke holes in the data collected from the original survey - what are some problems or comments you noticed and have with this new information? Let me know in the comments!
